About this Blog

Welcome to the world of Birds ~ Armchair birding via upclose videos. Adding quality to our life one bird at a time.
Seniors enjoy the gift of healthy memory activity they recieve from watching the theatre of nature. Test yourself to see how many birds you can remember. All shut-ins love the challenge of birdwatching from their windows, TV and computers.
Learn to identify the birds and they will soon feel like new friends.
We can only live one moment at a time. The birds will help us enjoy it as it reduces the fear that comes with memory loss.
Our thanks to the many youtube video producers who are bringing smiles to all who watch the excellent work.

June 1, 2015 Loon Chicks hatching

Minnesota Loon hatching event live cam by the lake
http://mnbound.com/live-loon-cam
One chick is already in the water before the other egg hatched. All the 700+ viewers are 'white knuckling' the event - including me - because when the chick first went in the water the other parent was not around to care for it so it was vulnerable to predators - it seemed like a long time for this newly hatched chick to be alone in the lake. Finally the other paent showed up and the little chick immediately went to it. Everyone was happy the chick survived its first big adventure. I got some screen shots to share.I was watching the event at full screen so the photo quality is poor quality but you will see the loon family working together to care for the chick and the remaining egg.
Then Monday (June 1) evening things changed. Please read Larry's Loon Blog for the drama details.
